When you are looking to find employment, you might not know where to start. Like Richie, it can be hard to find the right path, but well worth it once you do.

At Mylestones Employment, we work with thousands of job seekers match your skills, interests and goals with the right job. We have broken it down to 5 easy steps to begin your employment journey. Whether you are looking for yourself, a family member or friend, this guide will help you get started.

Step one – Check your eligibility

Disability Employment Support (DES) is an Australian Government program to support people with a disability to find and keep a job. For a job seeker to access support they must be eligible. You could be eligible if you have a disability, injury or mental health barrier that impacts you being able to find and keep a job. If you aren't sure if you are eligible for DES don't worry – we can take you through the process. You can check your availability by filling out this form or call 1300 635 627.

Step two – Meet with a job development officer

Once you have checked and confirmed your eligibility it's time to meet with your new Mylestones Job Development Officer (JDO). This is a great opportunity for us to get to know you, what kind of job you would like and come up with a plan to help you reach your goals. You will have the same JDO from start to finish who will be there for you every step of the way.

Step three – Training and Support

This part is all about skill development and preparation. We'll work with you on the essentials, such as reviewing your resume and developing your interview skills; but can also connect you with work experience and industry visits to give you an idea about what working in that job would be like.

Step Four – Interviews and work trails

Once we have found an employer who is a good match, we will help you to set up an interview. If you would prefer to do a work trial instead, we can help you to organise it. We know interviews can be challenging but we will be there to support you through the whole process – we can even sit in with you if you prefer.

Step Five – starting your new job

The big day has arrived! Starting a new job is an exciting time, but can be quite daunting for some. We can come with you on your first day, work out a training plan with your new employer and make sure everyone is settled in. For the weeks and months after, your JDO will be there whenever you need them. This includes making sure you have access to workplace modifications, training and the support you need.
