At Mylestones Employment, we celebrate everyone's individual journey.

Because highlighting these successes matters.

Meet Piper C

Piper, 24 years old, has achieved something truly empowering after joining Mylestones Employment. Her first four weeks of paid employment. As a store cleaner and trolley collector at Coles Victoria Point, Piper is hitting her stride thanks to her courage, dedication, and the personalised support provided by her team at Mylestones.

Facing challenges with determination Piper is a neurodivergent person who experiences sensory processing differences, chronic pain, and other health-related factors that can influence her energy levels, communication, and comfort in certain work environments. Public transport isn't a viable option for her, adding complexity to commuting.
Yet, Piper remained steadfast in her goal-to find meaningful work where her strengths and access needs are respected.

With the support of her Disability Employment Services (DES) team at Mylestones, Piper engaged in a tailored employment program, including vocational rehabilitation and disability-informed pain management education. Every step of her journey was shaped around her aspirations and requirements, ensuring her path to employment was both supportive and empowering.

A role tailored to her strengths

Through reverse marketing, Piper was introduced to a role at Coles Supermarkets that aligned perfectly with her requests. Seeking a preference for structured, low-stimulation jobs with room to work independently, Piper’s role at Coles has hit the mark. The team provided a warm welcome and a flexible set up that valued her needs, allowing her to thrive in her new roles as trolley collector and store cleaner. Already favouring the physicality and independence of the trolley work, which allows her to use headphones to manage sensory input, Piper is thriving.

Building confidence and a career

In just four weeks, Piper has already proven herself a valuable team member. Her confidence is growing, and she's already exploring the idea of increasing her hours as her work fitness improves. Even during a time of personal grief, Piper remained connected, communicating openly with her manager and planning her return to work.

The power of ongoing support

Mylestones Employment continues to walk alongside Piper-offering transport help, regular wellbeing check-ins, and continued encouragement to help her stay supported and successful at work.

Piper's journey is a powerful reminder that when employment is personalised, inclusive, and human-focused, success isn't just possible, it's inevitable.
